Folasade captures the unique essence of a fellow Nigerian artist, who like Laolu chose to deviate from a professional traditional path and instead focus on art. After discovering linked histories (mothers were from the same town and local government), Láolú was able to see the complex beauty of her ori.
Folasade takes you on a journey of four orishas: Orumila, Oshun, Oya, and Obatala that represent all of the experiences that were present in the model’s spirit. Láolú was so moved by the model’s spirit and her Ori, that he decided to name the piece Folasade, which means ‘Honor Earns a Crown’ in Yoruba. By exploring the orisha’s present in Folasade’s journey, Láolú ties in her past, present and future, via the ‘Sacred Art of the Ori
